Dear Anxiety

Oh Anxiety
Would you just go away
Leave me alone
So I can have a nice day?

When others feel excitement
You give me dread
If only I could convince myself
It’s all in my head

I long for a mind
Which is quiet & calm
But instead you hold me
Tightly in your palm

You speed up the thoughts
To a thousand miles an hour
Watching me struggle
Feeds your thirst for power

Both my mind & heart
Race beyond my control
I can’t catch my breath
Is that your goal?

Would it pain you so much
To just let me be?
Instead I can only dream
How it feels to be carefree.
